Our daughter has enjoyed taking basketball lessons from Donnelle very much. He has corrected many mistakes that no other coach has bothered to do. His knowledge of basketball and ability to teach skills are top-notch. Highly recommended.

Pete and Jennifer Anderson    Murfreesboro, TN

Donnelle has been working with our daughter for approximately 5 months and what a difference he has made. When you combine a great communicator and motivator with a person possessing a keen knowledge of the game it equates to a phenomenal trainer—that’s Donnelle! Not only has he taught our daughter correct shooting technique, ball handling skills, college level post moves, and effective concentration, but he has helped bring confidence to her game. We have been very impressed with his training and with our daughter’s improvement. We look forward to working with Donnelle for the next few years and are excited to see where his training will lead!

Kevin    Murfreesboro, TN

Donnelle's training sessions were very helpfull for my daughter. He is a stickler for detail and has an easy way of communicating. I highly recommend him especially for ball handling and defense.

Kathy Stickel    Smyrna, TN

After working with Coach Dickson at an open gym, my daughter immediately respected his coaching and wanted more coaching from him. She had been having trouble with her shot, mostly, so we signed up for some shooting classes and saw some immediate improvement. As she went along, taking more classes from the coach, she saw improvements in other areas as well and she has become a much more physical presence on the court. Fast forward many months, and she is still seeing Coach Dickson and finding improvements in her game. She made her high school basketball team and went straight to varsity. I have no doubt that was as a result of this training.

Due to my daughter's success, my son is now working with Coach Dickson as well, and he is seeing his own improvements in ball handling and understanding post moves.

Working with Coach Dickson has been an excellent way for me to help enable my children to succeed in the sport they love so much!

Matthew and Jennifer W.    Murfreesboro, TN

Coach Dickson has been working with our son for the past month. I am beyond pleased with his ability to break everything down and make it easy for his students to learn. Gavin looks forward to working out with him each week. He has been utilizing the many techniques that he has learned producing excellent results in live games. His middle school coach has commented several times that he can see improved footwork, post moves and overall understanding of the game. I would highly reccomend Coach Dickson to any parent with a child that loves the game. Coach Dickson not only wants the kids to succeed in basketball but he truly cares for each of the kids he works with. He makes it easy for the players to ask questions and puts them at ease creating a very fun learning enviornment. My son is never ready to leave!

Basketball Mom    Murfreesboro, TN

My eldest daughter has been training for Donnelle for only a month and I can see significant improvement already! Donnelle has great techniques on teaching proper form and style, which unfortunately she was never taught in school ball. His training is challenging while his demeanor is soft and caring. That is exactly what we were looking for. I have signed her as well as her two younger siblings up for private sessions as well as group workouts. We are looking forward to the training and improvements! Thank you, Donnelle!

Amazing changes in just one session. My Jazz has been blessed with height, talent and some great coaches along the way, but there was so much untapped potential within her that no one could reach. Then 1 session with Coach Donnelle and it's was like a switch flipped inside of her. She is the one who is working to reach her potential and even when she knows he is going to be hard on her with tough love and physical tests, she cant' wait to get to her sessions. He has an uncanny ability to reach the players and pull out the best in them. We are so blessed to have been introduced to Coach Donnelle and can't wait to see what the future holds for Jasmine. He is an outstanding coach, mentor and man, with him as her Hoops Mechanic... the sky is the limit!

Really changed the way I view the game of basketball ,also brought my game to the next level physically and mentally.

Coach Dickson is truly the Hoops Mechanic. He is an AWESOME coach and my son truly enjoy the classes. We have had the pleasure of training with him going on a year now. I have seen definite improvements in my son’s skills and motivation. What I love about Donnelle is that he is very personable and genuinely cares about his students. He is not intimidating, is very patient, and clearly knows what he is doing. However, he is completely honest and will not let his students do less than their best.

I recommend Donnelle to anyone looking for a supportive trainer who genuinely cares about his student’s overall skills and mental toughness.

Rachel Gaines    Mt. Juliet, TN

Our daughter Abby Rose has been working with Coach Donnelle for several months. He has given her the confidence that she needed on the court. She really enjoys her lessons and loves that Coach Donnelle has the patience to help her master a skill. We highly recommend Hoops Mechanic and Coach Donnelle. He came highly recommended and glad we made that call.

Gretchen Williams    Murfreesboro, TN

This program has been an awesome journey for my son. I was amazed with the different types of training methods Mr. Dickson uses to teach certain aspects of the game of basketball!! I would highly recommend this if your child is struggling to reach his or her potential. Thanks for all you are doing.

When my son mentioned he wanted to play basketball, I didn't know what to do. No one in my family plays basketball. I had no idea of anything doing with basketball except you get a ball in a basket. Coach Dickson has been working with my son for 4 months. He has taken him from a boy who could not dribble a basketball to a more confident young man. My son has improved considerably at coordination and just basic ball handling. He has a gentle but encouraging voice that took my son from I can't to I CAN! I like that he pushes the kids to do much more than they thought they can do.

Coach Dickson began working with my son 6 months ago. He attended 3 skills camps and the performance boot camp. He improved all aspects of his game; shooting, rebounding, post play, defense. The boot camp improved his quickness and added 2" to his vertical leap. Coach Dickson is an excellent communicator and knows how to get the best out of each student. His basketball knowledge is 2nd to none. I highly recommend Coach Dickson to teach your son or daughter the physical skills and mental toughness required to excel at the next level.

Shelley Moore    Smyrna, TN

My son has been working with Coach Dickson for a couple of months and I can definitely see an improvement. He is a wonderful motivator for kids who love the game of basketball. I especially like his hands on approach with the kids, he is on the court with them constantly pushing them to do things they didn't think possible. My son looks forward to every class and he is never ready to leave. His renewed excitement for the game is wonderful to see. I would highly recommend Coach Dickson.

Coni P.    Antioch, TN

Donnelle has really helped to raise my son's basketball IQ, he has the players look at the game as frustrating the opponent, and making smart decisions with the basketball. Donnelle makes his training sessions very easy to understand, and is quality instruction that we have not experienced with any other trainer. My only wish is that we would have found him sooner. I highly recommend him for your basketball training needs.

Kelly Wike    Lascassas TN

My son's skills have improved tremendously under coach Donnelle's instruction. Coach is a basketball scientist. He takes the time to explain the reason for each drill and how it relates to the game. He is all about efficiency. There is no wasted movement in his methods. You practice the fundamentals over and over, then one day you use them without thinking.
He is patient, kind, and uncompromising with my son. It is refreshing to work with a teacher who has the best mind, the best equipment, the best methods, and a great heart.

Ralph Tedrow    Murfreesboro

I have seen such a wonderful improvement in both my sons. They have taken the principles that were taught in the performance boot camp and i have seen great improvements in all they do and also on the basketball court. The other gain i have seen in both of them is their mental game and confidence. Thanks coach for all you do.

Coach Sanders    Smyrna

I am a basketball coach in the Smyrna area.Donnelle worked with some of the guys from my team.I highly recommend him, if you like to see your kids improve in basketball. When I first saw him working with the kids from my team...I told myself.Donnelle knows his stuff.Don't just take my word for it,go see for yourself and I bet you will be glad you did.I'm sure your kids will give you a big thank you..Keep up the good work Donnelle..

Sean Rosinbum    Almaville, TN

Donnelle's basketball training is built upon proper technique and form to keep athletes healthy and preventing injury. The focus to detail helps the athlete create strength and stamina to compete longer and harder eliminating wasted movements. I believe Donnelle enjoys going beyond the physical piece and examining the mind of the athlete. After spending some time to get to know the player, he will challenge the player to overcome mental hurdles which are effecting the physical part of the game. I appreciate the feedback coupled with exercises and drills for improvement.

Keith D    Memphis, TN

Donnelle really helped my son develop footwork, a positive mental focus, and an overall game on both the offensive and defensive end of the court. I would highly recommend Hoops Mechanic to any player or family considering his services. He provides basketball instruction that is catered to the specific athlete as well as high level basketball knowledge to take a player to the next level. This guy is good at what he does and has a true passion and love for young athletes.

I'd like to share a lesson I expect to push me through many walls in the future. In other words, I will look back on this when things are hard in the future. From what I understand this is essential to success. Okay let's get right to it. When I was in the fifth grade I fell in love with basketball. All of the cool kids were basketball players and my teacher was the basketball coach. I always wanted to be one of the cool kids and for me that meant being a basketball player. I practiced every day my fifth grade year out in my driveway and when tryout day was upon me I went to the school with my dad who watched the whole thing. I felt I did great during the tryouts and at the end I was sure I had made the team. I had not. I was heart broken. But it never occurred to me to quit, that it wasn't meant to be. Instead, the very next day I went out and practiced. I did so almost every day until the next years tryouts. I was now in sixth grade. My teacher was the basketball coach again and I had five of the coolest basketball players in my class which made me want to make the team even more since I was constantly reminded that I wanted to be one of them. When tryouts of my sixth grade year came around I felt ready. I was going to make it. I felt as if my performance for the one hour tryout was amazing and that I had done the best of my ability. I didn't make it once more. I was now more heartbroken than I had been the first time since it was my last year in elementary school. I cried and felt bad for myself during that night and the next day I got back at it. I would be going into a really big middle school meaning that the basketball team would be much more competitive. This meant, in turn, that I would have to REALLY step up my game. I practiced much harder now trying to earn myself a spot on the middle school team. I went to all the open gyms the school hosted in order to get the coaches to see me and remember me. When the first tryouts came around I was ready.

I went to all the open gyms the school hosted in order to get the coaches to see me and remember me. When the first tryouts came around I was ready. I WAS going to make it this time. I had put in 3 years worth of work. I HAD to make it. Once again I felt great about my performance and I thought I did great. I didn't make it. I wasn't heart broken. I was mad. I was mad at the world. At this time all I was concerned with was basketball. That was all I wanted. The next day I refused to get back at it. I was ready to give up. I was tired of working for what seemed to be a hopeless dream. That was until I met Donnelle. Donnelle was a basketball trainer that was training a very close friend of mine at the time. She wanted me to come over and hangout while she trained. I wore jeans and skate shoes. When they were done training I realized that she had told him I had decided to give up on basketball when he called me over to the side and asked me why I had decided to quit. I told him I was tired of working for nothing. I was putting in all of this work and getting nothing in return. He told me something I will never forget. He said "If you give me a year with you, I WILL get you on that team". I know it doesn't sound that majestic but it changed my mind. I was going to give this guy a year of my life and see if he could get me on that team. That year we met three times a week at any court we could, sometimes we went to the YMCA other times we found a goal in a parking lot at a grocery store, literally anywhere we could work. He pushed me mentally harder than I had ever been pushed. If I messed up he would take the ball and chuck it as far as he could and made me sprint after it and come back and try again until I got it right. He pushed me so hard that one day at the YMCA another trainer came over to him and pulled him aside to tell him to go easier on me. He just laughed and went right back at it. We did this all year until my eight grade tryouts. The last year I had before High School. This was the time I truly HAD to make it. My parents didn't watch the tryouts. Only Donnelle. I was an absolute monster on the court. I knocked people over, scored with ease, and blocked shots. When the coach called us back to the locker room to let us know when we would get notice of who had and hadn't made the team. This was the first time I had ever been in a basketball locker room. It was amazing. When he told everyone that we would find out the following week he dismissed everyone in the room but me. I was so nervous I felt like throwing up but it was a good type of nervous. He told me that he had seen my face in the gym every week for two years and that I had tried out 5 times and been cut but came back each year with the same attitude. He said " I guess you'll be one of those success stories I'll tell at tryouts ". I had finally done it. My trainer Donnelle had to go outside when I gave him the thumbs up because he was teary eyed. It was truly the greatest experience I had ever had. That was until the end of that season. The entire season I had gotten minimal play time and did what I could but at the end of the year for our homecoming game came around. This was the greatest night of my life. Coach called the starting line up out in the locker room before we ran out. To my surprise he called my name! This was the biggest night for basketball in the whole season. The house was packed for both teams. The greatest feeling was when my name was called for the starting line up over the loud speakers in the gym as I ran out on the court. Okay, that was a ridiculously long story but the message is clear. I wanted to give up, and if I did I wouldn't have experienced the best night of my life. I did have some help but either way it is quite clear that giving up cannot be an option if you want to be successful. I think this is going to do lots for me in the future.

I thought the instruction was on point, My son Darius learned so much.

Eric Coffey    Smyrna, TN

In just two sessions, I am sold on Coach Dickson. My son has been to various different instructors for both baseball & basketball, and I have developed some skepticism when it comes to quality individual & group instruction.

In the case of Coach Dickson, it was quickly obvious to me that he has 3 specific strengths I was looking for:
1. His knowledge base is wide. He can teach all aspects of the game (Skill, fitness, mental, etc.) which is not something many can do.
2. His sincerity & passion are evident in his interactions. Far too many people 'go thru the motions' but I believe Coach Dickson is truly invested in the success of his students.
3. He has the communication skills required to TEACH. I cannot state enough how many people I come across know a lot about what it takes to succeed, but do not have the communication skills required to effectively impart that wisdom on someone else.

Looking forward to continuing our relationship and watching my son grow as a result!

Tori Smith    Smyrna, TN

It was great , I feel as if my cousin and I got better and took a lot away as far as attention to detail and simple tricks and mechanics to be more efficient. I'll be much more prepared for my freshman season in college at ETSU.

I recommend Coach Dickson to everyone that I can. My sons have been working with Coach Dickson for a couple of months now. Both of them have improved so much under his instruction. One thing that I appreciate in particular is that he believes in his students and lets them know that. He encourages them even when they get frustrated with themselves and want to quit. He pushes them to the next level and lets them know they can go there and beyond. He has gotten to know each of my boys and their strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. He adapts his methods to the individual instead of teaching the same way to all kids. He has both of them so excited about the future. Both of them say they cannot wait until next year when they are stronger and better because of these classes. I am so grateful that we found Coach Dickson!!

Donnelle has worked with our daughter for 2 years now. My husband and I are truly pleased with the results. He is able to share his knowledge of basketball and motivate his students like no other trainer we have worked with before. He has worked with her on everything from correcting her shot, foot work, post play and mental toughness. Donnelle also spends time teaching his students how to read their defenders giving them the ability to identify their weaknesses. Our daughter’s game has been taken to the next level with his training. It’s great to see the smile not only on her face when she succeeds but ours as we watch her play.
Donnelle is truly an amazing trainer and coach, he is off the charts! Highly recommended!!!!!

Donnelle has been working with my nephew for approximately 3 months. I have seen a difference in my nephew ability to correctly and safely handle a basketball. I have noticed an improvement in his positive mental focus. Coach Dickson is a great motivator and communicator. I look forward to seeing the results from the future training sessions. I would highly recommend him for your basketball training.

Bobby Queener    Murfreesboro, TN

Donnelle has worked with my daughter for 2 years now and I am very happy with the results. He is teaching techniques seen at the college level and beyond. He has taught her the perfect way to shoot the basketball, how to read the defender's posture, how to explore their weaknesses, how to run the point position effectively and how to play a "lock down" defense. We continue to work with Donnelle on not just the on floor drills but also on the mental aspect of the game, which he is a master at. My daughter works well with him and likes the way he teaches. I would highly recommend Donnelle to anyone looking to take their game to the highest level, male or female.

George Sims    Mount Juliet

Coach Dickson has been working with my daughter Olivia, for only a few sessions. The improvements with her footwork, working in the paint, ball handling has been very impressive. This has shown on the court during game time. We are very pleased with his teaching style and attitude on the court. He brings out the basketball player in her. Thank you for that, Coach Dickson

William Ledbetter    Murfreesboro, TN

Coached both my sons. Observed all sessions. Very happy with results. Impressed by all aspects of training: progression of drills, intensity of sessions, instruction in biomechanics. Would highly recommend.

Lori K. Domer    Rockvale, TN

Donnelle has worked with my daughter, Emily, for the past two years. We have played ball and worked with other trainers for years; however, Donnelle is the ONE who can take your son/daughter to the next level. He is very intense because of his basketball knowledge, but is able to unleash that intensity into his players. They want to work, they want to learn, they want to perform and they want to be pushed. I cannot say enough good things about Donnelle and the positive impact he has brought to my daughter and her game!

Brad Johnson    Murfreesboro, TN

I have had Donnelle work with both of my boys and I am pleased with the results. Donnelle's instruction on defense has been specifically valuable over the years. I find Donnelle to be a great communicator and motivator. He does not settle for allowing players to go through the motions and expects them to practice perfect in order to attain the small advantages over their competition. At the end of a lesson, Donnelle will ask the player what they learned or what they can take away from the lesson. He isn't just filling an hour. His goal is to make players better and that is what makes him a great trainer.

Maria Broussard

My 14-year-old daugher, Camryn, played on the 8th grade TN Team Pride team, coached by Donnelle Dickson, this past spring. From the beginning, I was impressed with how Coach Dickson ran his practices, to include the combine testing he conducted at the start of the season. Camryn quickly realized that Coach wanted to help her improve her game and learned to trust him and his coaching style. As a parent, I appreciated his honest opinion of my daughter and valued his thoughts and suggestions. After the season with Pride ended, Camryn WANTED to continue to learn from Coach, so she's currently working with Coach in private sessions. Camryn looks forward to her sessions and feels that the one-on-one attention helps hone her skills. I feel that these sessions are vital to her continued success in her basketball career and helps prepare her for high school basketball.

Dina    Murfreesboro

Coach Dickson has worked with our son over the past few months. My son needed to work on basketball fundamentals to help take him to the next level. Coach Dickson has done an excellent job teaching our son to refine his abilities. Coach Dickson does not accept anything but the best from my child. He is an excellent communicator and he is a great teacher. I feel like my child has not only learned more about basketball fundamentals from Coach Dickson but has learned a lot about persistence, determination and work ethic. He has truly made a big impact on my son's life. I highly recommend him as a basketball coach.

Barbie    Christiana TN

Coach Dickson has helped my girls greatly!! We have seen a great improvement in how they play. He has helped them develop more confidence, better ball handling skills, and a better understanding of the game. He is VERY patient and professional!!!! I would recommend Hoops Mechanic to any parent who wants their child to do better at basketball.
