Donnelle Dickson is a nationally certified personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise (ACE), specializing in sports conditioning, Vertimax training, and weight management. With a deep passion for overall health and fitness, Donnelle focuses on physical development and instills an appreciation for the game of basketball and its rich history.
As the owner of Hoops Mechanic basketball training facility, Donnelle has left an indelible mark on the basketball community. He founded and served as the Head Coach of the two-time AAU National Champion Murfreesboro Force in 2017 and 2018, establishing himself as a trusted figure in nurturing young talents. Donnelle also held the esteemed position of Director of Player Development for the nationally recognized Tennessee Team Pride Girls AAU Organization, where he successfully led the TN Team Pride Girls 14U National Team. Moreover, he served as the Head Coach for The Force Boys 15U AAU Program, showcasing his ability to foster growth and excellence in young athletes.
With over 25 years of experience in coaching and training young athletes, Donnelle possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Remarkable accomplishments and transformative experiences highlight his coaching journey. Recently, Donnelle served as the head coach of the Webb Middle School Boy's Basketball team in Bell Buckle, TN. Under his guidance, the group witnessed a remarkable turnaround, improving from a previous 3-11 record to an impressive 16-4 season (2018-19) and securing a spot in the MTAC Final Four. In the following season (2019-20), the team achieved an outstanding overall record of 19-3 and reached the MTAC Championship game.

Throughout his coaching career, Donnelle has had the privilege of learning from renowned basketball figures and attending prestigious basketball clinics. He has gleaned wisdom directly from coaching legends such as John Wooden (UCLA), the late John Thompson III (formerly of Georgetown), Mike Krzyzewski (retired Hall of Fame coach from Duke), Geno Auriemma (UCONN), and many other esteemed coaches. These experiences have shaped Donnelle's coaching philosophy and refined his approach to the game.
In addition to his extensive coaching career, Coach D has had the extraordinary privilege of lending his expertise to the world-renowned video game series, NBA 2K, and the NBA Live Series by EA Sports. Recognized for his in-depth understanding of gameplay and fundamental aspects, Donnelle was invited to serve as a consultant for these esteemed gaming franchises. He played a pivotal role in ensuring an authentic replication of real basketball within the games, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
Donnelle's involvement extended beyond consultancy, as he also contributed to the motion capture process for NBA 2K, working closely with executive producer Mike Wang and EA's lead producer Rob Jones. By serving as a motion capture model, Donnelle's unique abilities and fundamental habits were meticulously programmed into the actual game, enhancing the realism and fidelity of the player experience.

Today, as Cheyenne continues her journey with the Atlanta Dream, Hoops Mechanic takes pride in having contributed to the success of such an accomplished athlete, further solidifying his reputation as a trusted coach and mentor within the basketball community.
Coach D had the opportunity to train with Brea Edwards, a remarkable basketball player who made her mark at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and continued her professional basketball career in Europe. Hoops Mechanic training sessions with Brea focused on honing her skills, refining her technique, and enhancing her overall performance on the court. Witnessing Brea's dedication and drive firsthand, Coach D played a crucial role in helping her elevate her game to new heights, demonstrating his ability to empower athletes and prepare them for success at every level of competition.
Hoops Mechanic played a pivotal role in developing and transforming Tyisha Petty, a standout point guard from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Recognizing her potential, We focused on enhancing Tyisha's shooting abilities, resulting in a remarkable improvement in her statistics. Under his guidance, Tyisha's three-point shooting percentage surged from 26.4% to 39.2%. Additionally, her overall field goal percentage rose from 38.5% to 42.6%, while her points per game soared from 12.2 to an impressive 18.4 between her junior and senior seasons. Coach D's dedicated training and personalized coaching proved instrumental in unlocking Tyisha's full potential and maximizing her impact on the court.
Hoops Mechanic training played an instrumental role in the development and journey of JJ Platt, starting from his early days in 5th grade and guiding him to become an NCAA DI Point Guard at Jacksonville State University. Our comprehensive training and mentorship throughout the years helped shape JJ's skills, mindset, and overall basketball abilities. Recently, JJ decided to transfer to Christian Brothers University, a testament to his continued growth and the trust he places in Coach D's coaching expertise. Their collaborative efforts have paved the way for JJ's successful basketball career at the collegiate level, highlighting Hoops Mechanic's ability to nurture and elevate young talents.
We had the privilege of training Jasmine Hassell, a talented basketball player who made her mark at the University of Georgia. After her successful stint in the WNBA, Jasmine sought out Coach D's expert guidance to further enhance her skills and maintain her peak performance. Their training sessions focused on refining her technique, strengthening her basketball IQ, and ensuring she remained at the top of her game. Our coaching and mentorship continued to be invaluable to Jasmine as she transitioned into the next phase of her basketball career.
Hoops Mechanic played a pivotal role in the training and coaching journey of Tyler Erdman, beginning in the 7th grade and continuing throughout his high school years. Through dedicated training sessions and AAU coaching, Hoops Mechanic helped shape Tyler into a standout high school player. Tyler's exceptional performance and skills paved the way for him to pursue his basketball career at Bryan College, where he continued to thrive under Coach D's guidance. Our commitment to Tyler's development is evident in his successful transition from a promising young athlete to a collegiate player, showcasing Hoops Mechanic's ability to nurture talent at every stage.
Hoops Mechanic played a crucial role in the training and development of Reggie Upshaw Jr., a standout player at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Through focused training sessions, Coach D worked closely with Reggie to improve his free throw shooting, significantly improving his percentages. Reggie's free throw percentage increased from 49.2% during his junior year to 72.4% in his senior season. Coach D's dedicated coaching and attention to detail played a significant role in Reggie's growth as a player, helping him excel both at the collegiate level and during his professional career with Telenet Giants Antwerp in Europe.
We had the privilege of training and coaching AnnaCaite Markham from the early stages of her basketball journey, starting in 6th grade. AnnaCaite displayed a tremendous work ethic and passion for the game from a young age. Through Hoops Mechanic's dedicated training and guidance, AnnaCaite developed her skills, honed her basketball IQ, and embraced a strong foundation for success. This early training and coaching laid the groundwork for her subsequent accomplishments, including winning an AAU National Championship with Donnelle as her head coach and earning a spot on the University of South Carolina Upstate's Division I basketball team. AnnaCaite's growth and achievements are a testament to the impact of Coach D's coaching throughout her formative years.
Coach D played an integral role in the training and coaching journey of Zoe Piller, starting from her 7th-grade year and guiding her to remarkable achievements. As her dedicated trainer and coach, Hoops Mechanic helped shape Zoe's skills and instilled a strong work ethic from a young age. Under Coach D's guidance, Zoe's talents shone as she contributed to an AAU National Championship victory. Zoe's dedication and growth as a player led her to continue her basketball career at the University of Western Florida. Recently, she decided to transfer to the University of Tampa, further highlighting her commitment to excellence and Hoops Mechanic's instrumental role in her development as a collegiate athlete.
At Hoops Mechanic, Donnelle offers comprehensive training in five key areas: ball-handling, shooting, defense, mind & body, and game application. With a meticulous focus on individual needs, he has developed over 175 specific lessons to ensure targeted improvement and growth. Athletes can choose between one-on-one private instruction or small group sessions tailored to their skill level, all while receiving ongoing monitoring and assessment to track progress effectively.
